About Us

Who We Are

We are information law attorneys with decades of experience both inside and outside of the government. We have litigated dozens of actions against federal agencies under FOIA, defended as many in our federal service, and know the process from the inside-out. Because of our expertise and commitment to public access, we have both been honored with appointments on the FOIA Advisory Committee at the National Archives. We believe in advocating for the public's right to access the public's records, and we will fight to enforce that right. Transparency is non-negotiable.

Why choose Free information Group

We're experienced FOIA professionals and have seen how investigations can succeed or fail based on the first request. We understand what the government's  internal information environment looks like, so we can help you understand what records are actually there and which inbox, cell phone, or filing cabinet to find them in. We can also help you understand what story those records  tell, what can and can't be proved by them, and how.

Our experience within the administrative state informs all of our work, and we help you go after the records no-one else knows about. We have also organized and supported complex investigations into environmental wrongdoing, police misconduct, information privacy, and more. And we've leveraged federal documents into front page news stories and real policy reforms. We know how challenging it can be to synthesize a sea of redactions and jargon into common parlance, and when you can achieve more with less.

Call us before the first request is filed and we will help organize your campaign, draft your requests, and plan what to do with records before you ever see them.
